Happy Winter Solstice 2017 from Wintermas!

Winter Solstice 2017 in Northern California
The sun setting on the Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year, in North America.

As the sun sets on the shortest day of the year there’s a palpable feeling that the significance of this day doesn’t get its due, even in secular Western culture. The day goes by with barely a notice, while everyone remains focused on December 25.

But who among the non-religious will deny that the end of the shortest days and the longest nights and the return of the light the Winter Solstice brings are the true reasons for the season we celebrate this time of the year?

Bringing meaning to this time of year for the non-religious is what Wintermas is all about, but we clearly have a long way to go to get back to what the ancients understood about these days and their significance to our lives.
